A large Scottish silver quaich, by Brook and Son, Edinburgh, of traditional form, hallmark: Edinburgh 1919 or 1921 (mark slightly rubbed), length 17.4cm (tip to tip of lugs), SOLD.
The earliest silver quaichs often mimic the detailing of wooden examples and show the timber construction as engraved details. Although this example is 20th.century, it is hand made and is based on silver prototypes from the 17th or early 18th.centuries. It has many authentic constructional features such as hollow handles (lugs), out-turned rim and circular foot ring.
